M8 GX Inductive Proximity Sensor is a very compact non-contact sensor used to detect metallic objects in industrial automation systems. The term M8 refers to the 8 mm diameter threaded cylindrical body of the sensor, making it suitable for installations where space is very limited.
This sensor operates based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. Inside the sensor, an oscillator generates an electromagnetic field at the sensing face. When a metal object approaches this field, it causes a disturbance in the electromagnetic energy. The sensor detects this change and switches the output signal (ON/OFF) to indicate the presence of the metal object.
